My attitude is that “more information” is not a consequence but it’s a conscious choice made by us in the 21st century. Ultimately it comes down to personal approach to deal with information and channelize to realize appropriate value. Any form of regulation – direct or indirect is unsustainable. What do you think?

Now, 100 plus is a significant number, and we’re talking about Delhi alone and not the entire nation. I’m no census junkie but a few 1000 people could be a rough figure when it comes to road accidents across the nation.

Lately, our society has been consumed by H1N1. While H1N1 is a valid concern and needs attention, we tend to overlook significant but unobvious causes like road accidents and hence miss to take measures effectively.

I know that there’s a passionate following for *anything Bollywood* in India, but seriously this headline?

And considering the scenario, pocket less pants may not be a panacea (certainly not in India). Corruption problem is a deep social and economical problem and hence needs a wider attempt to be contained. Things like having an anti corruption body with rights to conduct constant vigilance of ground staff and reviewing the scenario on a frequent basis might help in tactical terms. And, as a long term measure, investing in airport security apparatus with a imminent focus on usage of latest high tech surveillance capabilities would improvise the situation. Perhaps this should go hand in hand with the overhaul of current legal framework to contain the preeminent problem of corruption.

But even more interesting is this concepts interpretation by the market forces. There is a reincarnation bank which claims to preserve your assets and deposits for all the years you’d be away. If in the new life you can remember your previous life plus recall specific details earlier provided, you can claim your assets back. Interesting! (wonder, how did these people think??)

I wonder how many people have actually tried this concept and what’s the success rate. And as the model becomes more mature, no wonder we might find a legal framework around this concept, which can be used by people to freely deposit/claim their assets.

And BTW, does this bank have an ATM? J And smoking gun, how about banking regulations? (Pun intended) We’ve been hard bitten by banks flying high in a free market set up.

You follow friends and perhaps get followed by people to exchange ideas, follow activities of mutual friends etc. Imagine MacWorld being covered using Twitter instantly – I mean live blogging? Well, it’s already happened as we speak in the last MacWorld. My problem at this stage is that I’ve hardly found anybody from India or even Melbourne on Twitter, but a lot folks from the US. Apparently, its yet to be picked up in these markets. But anyway, in my view soon India would start to see potential in these services.

A Central pay commission isn’t about Central Government and its 3.5 million employees alone. It will inevitably extend to state government and quasi-government bodies and cover around 45 million people. The overall impact will be around 1 per cent of GDP (less than Fifth Pay Commission’s 1.5 per cent, because DA hikes have been larger since then). The point isn’t whether buoyant revenue can absorb this 1 per cent shock.

Unless one can demonstrate these hikes will result in efficiency improvements and increase the size of the cake, this is a transfer from 375 million who work outside the government to 45 million who work for government and quasi-government bodies.

I think this is yet another example of rearwards from the Indian administration to the people who work in the Government. Its clearly the business of government in play. With this advancement in the Sixth Pay Commission, what is really lacking is the spending strategy of the Government along with sourcing details of this money. Atleast its not yet highlighted effectively by any of administration authorities. So ultimately, with these financial dot points, what’s in it really for India? Are we on track with the so called reforms process and disinvestment in the business of government? Is tax payers money utilized in the most optimal way in the so called “post reforms era”?

There are more than 1.5 million employees of central public sector companies who have been demanding hikes for over 100 per cent. As per statistics, central government employees get 204 holidays out of 365 days. There are more than 230 state-owned companies, of which only about 150 make profits.

Its high time now for the government to speed up with reforms process with effective disinvestment strategy. Nobody would be against commissioning hikes as long as there is a clear spending strategy targeted only towards appropriate institutions. It would be understandable to commission hikes for IIM, IIT faculties, citizen serving or defense institutions, as ultimately its a contribution to our social fabric at large. With effective governance and mandates it may make sense to spend for better bureaucracy and streamlined government operations. Without professional measures its certainly going to encourage more people to work for the government and may further slow down the disinvestment process. I’m certainly not against working for the government with comparable compensations, but I reckon its about result oriented approach to incorporate better governance and professional operations which must take a higher priority. High time to move towards market-based service delivery, which will not only justify the proposed hikes of 7th, 8th or 9th commission but will makes sense from a governance perspective as well.

Our idea of Deep Dive is three fold: One is to create a medium to express compelling ideas which may not only form a world view, but also help shape it (in its small way) economically, politically, socially and morally. Secondly, we’d like to create a social network of like minded folks interested to write and shape this world. I mean seriously, how cool it can be to get together and talk about the latest iPhone or even Paris Hilton? Thirdly, and most importantly, to have fun. Plain simple fun and excitement.

Our only principle here is to have no principles, rules or whatsoever. We put together stuff which we can think rationally or irrationally. Only limitation is our imagination and so if I can say there’s “no roof on top” of Deep Dive.
